Alexis Helffrich

Alexis HelffrichUpon graduating from the French Equestrian Academy, Ecole Nationale d’Equitation de Saumur in 2005, Alexis launched his riding and training career in the U.S. Upon his arrival, he began training the riders at Denville Kanani Ranch and developing two horses: Leya, a Selle Français, owned by Sarah Vernlund and Spike, a New Zealand Thoroughbred, owned by Mallory Kuhn.

Their accomplishments include:
• In 2008 and 2009, Leya competed at the Advanced Level, finishing first at Twin Rivers in April 2009 and second at Galway Downs in March 2009. Leya’s career began as recently as 2006 in the Novice Division.
• In 2008, Spike competed at the CCI** level. After a short delay in his training, Spike returned to competition to place 1st in the Intermediate Division at Twin Rivers in April 2009 and 4th in the Intermediate Division at Galway Downs March 2009.
• In January 2009, Leya and Alexis were selected for the US Developing Riders List and have been training with the coach of the US Eventing Team, Mark Phillips.

Their goals for the next few years include riding Leya at Fair Hill International in 2009 in order to qualify for the World Equestrian Games, Pan Am Games, and potentially the Olympics.
